Environment Minister Duarte Cordeiro announced on February 24, 2023, that "a new call for proposals for the Support for More Sustainable Buildings program will be launched shortly," with additional funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
What does this program support?
The Support Program for More Sustainable Buildings funds energy efficiency improvements in Portuguese homes, including:
- High-performance windows with superior insulation
- Solar panels for self-consumption
- Thermal insulation for walls and roofs
- Heat pumps
- Other energy efficiency improvements
Results of Phase II (2021/2022)
The previous phase of the program achieved significant results:
- 70,344 applications approved
- €122.6 million disbursed (91% of the available budget)
- Average payment per application: 1,743 euros
- Estimated annual energy savings: 37.8 million euros
- Over 10 million square meters of Portuguese housing renovated
What happened after the May 2022 applications?
The application deadline closed in May 2022, with a total allocation of 135 million euros distributed across several phases. Many citizens who had completed energy efficiency projects were still awaiting government reimbursement (up to 85% of expenses).
The minister confirmed that the launch of a new call for applications would depend on the confirmation of the reallocation of RePowerEU funds to Portugal, stating: "As soon as this is confirmed, a new call for applications will be launched."
